Accessories for laboratory work

What you need besides the peptides themselves: solvents for reconstituting lyophilised substances, and consumables for handling them in the laboratory.

Bacteriostatic water

Sterile filtered water with an addition of 0.9 percent benzyl alcohol. Benzyl alcohol acts bacteriostatically – it inhibits the growth of microorganisms but does not kill them. This is why this grade of water suits solutions that are drawn from repeatedly over a longer period, unlike water for injection without a preservative.

Which grade of water suits which use is decided by the laboratory protocol in question.

Reconstituting lyophilised substances

A lyophilisate is freeze-dried and has to be brought back into solution before use. The rules: bring the vial to room temperature before opening so that no condensation forms. Let the solvent run down the wall of the vial rather than directly onto the powder, and do not shake – peptides are mechanically sensitive.

Storage

Bacteriostatic water is stored at room temperature and needs no cold chain. Prepared solutions, by contrast, belong in the refrigerator and keep only for a limited time; the exact figure is stated on the relevant certificate of analysis.

For the substances themselves, go to single peptides.
